The Birth of Industrial Electrical Warehouse
Ian Clayton, the founder, started as an apprentice electrician for a large manufacturing plant in 1974.
In 1978, when he earned his license as an electrician, he began providing services to homes like repairs and installations.
And later on expanded his career by providing services to offices, correctional facilities, and food manufacturers.
While working with manufacturers, he noticed that wholesalers only gave high-volume discounts to large businesses, denying small businesses the same opportunity so an idea came to Ian of a for-profit business, with helping small businesses as its rationale.
In 2006, Industrial Electrical Warehouse was born. The goal was to provide small businesses discounted rates whether they purchased 100 or one product.
He also saw the problems of some manufacturers with production downtime due to difficult access to hard-to-find and rare industrial electronics and automation products so he expanded his service by delivering obsolete electrical products to manufacturers, allowing them to continue operations and generate consistent revenue.
Through hard work and consistently providing value to its customers, Industrial Electrical Warehouse was able to serve small businesses and manufacturers in nearly 27 countries across seven continents.
Facing and Overcoming Challenges
The True Meaning of Success
Over the years, Industrial Electrical Warehouse has faced numerous challenges. But it was Ian and his team's hard work, consistency, ability to listen to and learn from his customers' needs, and mustering the courage to try things again and again until they got it right that allowed them to weave their way out of those difficulties.
Success, for Ian and his team, is not all about money. It is more about teamwork and mutual respect. It is about consistently following through and being polite and kind to all the stakeholders. Above all, it is about staying faithful to the business's raison d'être—to help small business owners grow and keep up with the competition by providing them affordable industrial electronics and automation products.
